“High Five!”

Maliyah has been talking more and more lately. It seems like every day she comes up with new words that she has learned. It’s amazing to see her little mind work and to know how she is processing things. I’ve been meaning to write down as many of her little sayings so that I don’t forget these little moments.

She will randomly through out the the day say “High Five!” with her little hand raised and ready for you to not leave her hanging and then she will usually say “Knuckles!” with her hand in a fist ready for you to make the “pow” noise as you give her a fist bump. She will then smile from ear to ear and go on her merry way.

This morning she touched my phone and up popped the background picture of her - She then said “Mi-la”(Maliyah) “CUUUTE!” I had to laugh as she said it in a super sweet way.

Maliyah is over all a happy kid and she gets super excited about things. She’ll now verbalize it and say “I’m excited!” or “It’s AMAZING!”

She also has gotten really good at saying “please” and thinks that saying it will make whatever she is asking for magically appear or work. Her “2” year birthday balloon has long since given up it’s floating capabilities and as I was cleaning up this morning it came out of hiding. She wanted desperately for it to float again and kept on saying “PLEEEASE” as if saying it would make it float again. I wish I had more helium to make her wish come true but alas I did not.

We’re still working on getting her to say “thank you” with out prompting, but sometimes if I was the one thanking her for something she will randomly reply with an enthusiastic “Welcome!”.

She now says “I don’t want it” instead of saying “NO!” if there is a particular type of food that she does not want. Actually…she still says “No” too lol.

She also knows words that a lot of two year olds don’t know. Who knew that some of her frequently used words were “TPN”, “flush” (saline flush for when we flush her PICC line), “tummy hurt”, “bloated”, “bandaid”, “medicine”, “rubbing” (for when she wants me to rub her PICC line arm because it itches), and “better” (for when she starts to feel better). I’ve seen her tender side come out when she sees others hurting, she will often get a concerned look on her face and then offer her remedy of how to make it feel better whether it’s a bandaid, medicine or to rub it. It’s like she is super aware of other people’s hurt.

Out of all the things she says the sweetest is when she says “I love you” without any prompting. She says it at the most unexpected moments and it just makes my heart melt. It makes even some of the hardest days well worth it.
